Interview with Fetah Sabbak with wheelchair Karate from France

cannesMy practice of karate:

I started karate in 1985 in Algeria, at the age of 8 years.
I participated in several competitions locally and nationally, in kata and kumite and I got my black belt in 1992. In 1997, after an accident I find myself in a wheelchair, paraplegic lower limbs touched the 11th and 12th vertebrae (D11-D12) and I stopped my practice of karate.

The Handikaraté:

In 2002 I was contacted by a convener of the Association of Paralyzed from France, he introduced me to a professor who taught the disabled. Following that, I began the practice of karate, but with specific adaptations. And I joined 4 years ago the Commission Handikaraté of FFKDA to develop karate and adapt to people with disabilities. I got my diploma Instructor Federal order to convey a karate suited to people with disabilities. My goal is to make karate accessible to all forms of disability, but also change the look of disabled people towards disability so that we may one day consider a disabled person or valid, just as a practitioner of karate.

MY FITNESS:

- Traditional Karate:

Today the public disability (mobility impairment, visual, auditory and mental) can practice karate with adaptations. For the motor disability, the Katas are adapted with the explanation of the bunker line in the traditional pattern. This operation allows the practice of the competition. Thus, several countries already organize tournaments like the Open Soumagne Belgium Open and Istanbul in Turkey. France the last two years organizing some competitions. The next will be the Open Languedoc Roussillon April 11, 2009. The Kumite it can be played in competition too, but only for certain types of motor disabilities. A study of a specific regulation is now underway.

- Karate Health:

In this category, the practice of karate is at a different rate compared to traditional karate. The aim of this work is to replace the corrective techniques developed, and discuss the katas on respiratory aspects.

- Karate Jutsu:

Some people are attracted to the practice of karate jutsu (self defence) in order to gain greater self-control and confidence. This form of practice will see some adjustments in regards motor impairment.

Dreams are made to be made with or without disabilities, through the will and courage, great things can be accomplished, even the wildest dreams! Currently, it is important to change the vision that people wear on Disability. For this it is essential to reach out to others, talk to them and introduce them to our life, our universe so that they realize that we are not so different from them, because we like them, citizens full. With each new encounter, the look changes and things progress, we must continue to educate others.
